A-bombed Tree

Black pine
(Sanyo buntokuden)
  7-1 Hijiyama-cho, Minami-ku, Hiroshima (Sanyo buntokuden)

  (2012.4.7)

  I came to shoot the cherry blossoms of the A-bomb tree,
but I found this tree in the forest in the back.
It has already died, but when it was alive, it seemed like a fine tree.

The sign says:
It is an old pine tree with a tree height of 3 m and a trunk of 2.85 m.
Branches extend 15 meters from east to west.
The long stretched branches are considered to be like monkeys spreading their hands,
and are called "Enkou tsukuri"("Enkou" is monkey).
This unique branch is artificially tailored and is a valuable resource for learning about gardening techniques.
It is also valuable as an old tree that remains in the city.

 <How to visit>

Please check the map on the left.

From Hiroshima Station, take a tram (5 for Ujina Port) and get off at Hijiyamashita Station. Go up the slope where the police box is, turn left at the curve and go up the stairs. There is a cherry blossom immediately and you can see it when you go deep inside.
The map says there is Someiyoshino cherry tree, but the location is wrong.
